TTT races are beautiful to watch, but they penalize a strong rider on a weak team. People gripe all the time about Pogi and UAE winning. Well, a TTT just makes the situation worse. Remco is the best TT rider in the world, but he's likely to lose time to both Pogi and Jonas on stage 1. Why? Because they're very good TT riders who happen to have incredibly strong TT support riders, Seixas will probably lose time on stage 1 for the same reason.
TTT races should be eliminated altogether from stage races.
Reducing the points awarded on mountaintop finishes will prevent a guy like Jonas from winning the green, but it won't necessarily stop a stage hunter like Pogi. I would like to see more intermediate points and fewer finish line points. Does it really make sense to have a major jersey for guys who are really fast for 200m at the end of a few stages? I would like to see guys like Quinn Simmons or other breakaway riders get a jersey for working out in the wind over hundreds of kilometers.
I agree that it shouldn't automatically go to the GC winner, but that doesn't mean it should only go to a sprinter. What about puncheur stage hunters?
